Pains of Prisoner Number: 331

Mr. Indra Singh Gurung was born in the district of Tanahu, Purkot Village Development Committee (VDC), Ward no: 8, Nepal, on October10, 1951. His parents were Mr. Lal Singh Gurung and Mrs. Mankumari Gurung. He was among the seven brothers born from Lal Singh and Mankumari. Two sisters were also born from them. All of their children were living harmoniously in the family. Grandfather Shri Tek Bahadur Gurung’s reputation was at a great height in the region. The ancestors of Indra Gurung were popularly known the as mukhiya (the chief of village) since the time of his grandfather and used to be called by the names like jamindars (landlord), subedar ( a non-commission rank in army).

Purkot Bandeli VDC is a heavenly place with the gift of nature. There were a Kalikathan (a place of goddess for sacrificing animals) and a altar house behind Indra’s house and is still there. When a person is eager to enjoy the beautiful scenery of nature, he/she can view the beautiful ranges of The Himalaya and its mountains. There are three fountains that can be captured in their eyes falling eternally like the cream in milk. The attractive rainbow colored panorama of embracing of rising sun in the east and setting sun in the west is really inexpressible.
Northern part was always shining because the Kanchenjunga continuously spread its beauty. Along with this, Annapurna was in the south giving its panoramic beauty. Macchapuchre in the west and Gorakhnath in the east were enveloping the village with their beauty. Not only would this, the beautiful flowers like rhododendron, the national flower of Nepal, always smile in all the mountain ranges enveloping the village.

Mr. Indra Bahadur’s early days passed with those mountains and buffaloes, sheep, cows and goats. His childhood passed in the village with rustic experiences in ups and downs, with rural environment and domestic works in the village. Unfortunately his father passed away deserting nine offspring and widowing his wife Mankumari. Sweet Mankumari had to bear the responsibility of fostering those nine children without expressing any difficulty. Being a courageous mother, she nurtured the children in healthy environment without any hesitation.

Initially, the mother was in trouble but when the eldest son got selection in army, the days of Mankumari became enhanced. Because of their mother’s good wishes and pure feelings towards them, all the sons got recruited in army one after another. She was always a devotee of god and goddess. It was because of her love, trust and confidence in her sons, she would do fasting of goddess swosthani (a goddess) and she also would offer sacrifices and dedicate many things to god in her sons’ names. A brother just above Indra was little lazy but was clever and used to sit for prayer, do religious rituals and would learn to chant sacred verses; however Indra was very active and brilliant since his childhood. That is why he was loved by everyone in the society throughout the village. Family love and the pride of four brothers’ service in army had brought a great romance in the life of Indra Bahadur. Indra was always famous and was a figure of popularity in local rituals, festivals, parties and marriages. Moreover, he was recognized as the son of the landlord of Purkot. Festivals and seasonal fairs would be there according to the rituals of the villagers. There used to be rodhighar (it is a typical Nepali dance house where all the people of different ages come and get entertainment). The neighboring villagers used to come to such programmes. All the friends, boys and girls, of Basantapur, Chitikhola, Nayagaun, Bayapani, Samjur, Olne and Raipali would meet there in Thuldhunga Bazar called Shivaratri.
Once, in such a programme, Indra reached the market place late. He delayed in meeting his love birds Dahirani and Mahirani at the programme. They used to love him so much boundlessly. He was late as he had to talk with relatives of Pulimrang and Myaubari. Therefore, Dahirani and Mahirani had started singing with lads of another village when Indra reached there. Later, Indra Bahadur also reached there with his friends and started expressing his feelings in the songs. But they behaved as if they did not hear his songs. Then, he became sarcastic in his songs but a lahure (lahure is a Nepali name for a Nepali who joins foreign army) pointed out to Indra with his finger and told him not to tease the girls sitting with him. He further told that the entire girls belonged to him. He said that none could even step on the places where the lahure had stepped.
Indra and his friends did not have the courage to fight with the lahure however, they were not afraid with him as they were also in groups. So, they decided to go to another place as the girls seemed attracted towards the lahure. When Indra was neglected by the girls of his own village, he became completely thoughtful and contemplated for a while at his threshold. He thought that even if a person had everything, it was not respected like a lahure. So, Indra went leaving his home to meet Dalle, a lahure living in his in-laws’ house at Nangrung. Indra reached Dalle with the new clothes he brought on the market day. He also had a Cronograph writst watch brought by his brother. He had several grams of golden rings. Dalle lahure was about to go to Sapatusimla Rukrut Company with his wife after his annual leave. At Nangrung, everything was made ready for Dalle’s departure the next day.
Seeing him in the early morning, Dalle asked Indra, “Why are you here in the early morning, Indra? Didn’t you go to Thulo Dhunga Bazaar?”
Indra answered, “I went but it was very boring, Dalle brother.”
He asked, “Why? What happened?”
“I also would like to become a lahure, brother”, answered Indra. “I came here knowing that you were here on leave”.
“Brother Indra, you are too young to become alahure,” said Dalle.
‘Until or unless I become an army I will stay with you together”, said Indra in a determined voice.
“Brother Indra, I can understand your utterance but the government has given my quarter and it does not allow us to take outsiders. You can only meet us but can’t stay with us”, Dalle explained his obligation.
Indra asked again, "Brother, cant we find a room in rent nearby your residence? Please take me together with you; I will never forget your generosity.
Then, Dalle asked Indra, “I am ready to take you, and I can also find a room for you, but tell me how you can pay off your house rent if you don't get the job?”
Indra told Dalle, "Brother, take all of my possession, take my watch, gold ring and raw gold. As you are an army, you will get salary as soon as you reach there."
Indra further requested Dalle to help him that time, as he could be helpful to Dalle later in future.
"If you say so you come with me," said Dalle. Then, Indra thanked Dalle with great respect and got ready happily to go together with Dalle.
Then, Indra started contemplating about the foreign land. How could be the foreign land? Since he was born in a village, he had not put even slippers on his feet, he had not even heard about the vehicles and motors. He had only seen the aeroplanes from the earth. Indra reached Dumbre Bazar, sometimes talking with Dalle and sometimes with Dalle’s wife. He was surprised to see the motors only when he reached Dumre bazaar. Indra bought a pair of shoes as advised by Dalle brother. But he wondered about wearing the shoes. The lahure taught him how to put shoes but Indra could not learn how to put. He could finally wear the shoes. It was really a difficult situation for him, sometimes he slipped down sometimes he collided with the stones.
They reached Bhairahawa on the next day of their departure. The next day they reached India, completely new for Indra. When they reached India, none was found speaking Nepali, so Indra talked sometimes with sister-in-law and sometimes with lahure brother. After 3/4 days, Dalle told Indra, "My little brother, you can't stay with us as it is a government house. I have talked with a Nepali boy who is known to me since long time, he is running a hotel. I have told him about you and he has agreed to keep you with him, as it is a government house. Both of you can remain mutually together. We will occasionally visit you."
As Indra had no option rather than following Dalle brother, he silently showed his acceptance. Then, he took Indra to the Nepali boy's room and left him with the boy giving some valuable advices. Then after, the lahure went to his duty. Indra thanked the army brother for his magnanimity. The two introduced themselves with each other; both of them were originated from Tanahun District. The new person introduced was from the Chiti River area. Indra introduced him that he was from Purkot. The man told him that he had visited Indra's village for watching ghatu dance. At that moment, Indra also told that he had visited Chiti River several times for fishing. Indra further told that he was very good in throwing the net for fishing. The new Nepali asked what Indra's father name was. Indra told that he was the grandson of Tek Bahadur Gurung and son of mukhiya jamdar Lal Singh Gurung. The man said that Indra's father used to visit his house for buying he goats. He further told that he had known Indra's father well. He wanted to know what his father was doing at that time. Indra replied that his father expired during his childhood. He furthered that he had blur ideas about his father's death.
The man instantly said, “Please pardon me little brother, as I asked, you replied it.”
Indra Gurung convinced the new Nepali telling him that a person must pay off the debts of this world; once they are born. All must die one day eventually.”
The men offered Indra whether to prepare food as it was the time to get hungry. Indra Gurung wished-for cooking food jointly together. However, the man said that Indra was a guest so he did not want to employ him. He told he would cook that day; Indra would cook some other day. Indra agreed with the Nepali brother.
While talking about different things of villages the food was ready. They got ready for the food and drank rum with the meal.
Indra explained that he had been drinking wine since his childhood so he could not deny his brothers request in a foreign land. Then, they started drinking by cheering and furthered their conversation. Indra was more curious and wanted to know about the man and asked, “When did you come here?”
“Brother, it is more than two years,” replied the new Nepali.
“Aren’t you interested in joining Army?”
“I have tired several times to join the army but I am rejected sometimes in physical fitness, sometimes I am rejected in medical. We should be very fortunate to get a government service,” the person shared his experience.
Indra started thinking about his body structure and age. He thought that the new brother was fit enough to be an army man. He was surprised to know that the person was not selected in army recruitment for several reasons.
After a short while the new brother (Guna Bahadur) asks, “Brother, there might be a lot of enjoyment in the village. The bazaar at Thulodhunga must have been very interesting. Is not it brother? Didn’t you visit there before coming?
“Of course brother, it is really worthy to look at, but this time I did not enjoy the bazaar at Thulodhunga,” said Indra.
“Why is it so? Did you quarrel with someone?” asked the brother.
“I did not quarrel with anyone but the girl who promised to live and die together got detached with me in a fraction of second. That’s why I am here brother, what to do? If we are not a lahure the girls in our place don’t trust. I have left home for joining army; I don’t know whether I can be selected in army. You look like an army even if you are officially not selected. It is really a difficult circumstance for the person like me to be selected. As I have come I must wait and see whatever comes, I have to face it. Is not it brother? ” Indra expressed his dissatisfaction.
“Yes you are right, brother. I also have come here to join the army itself. I earned money equal to the salary of army man but I could not become army. It is determined by our destiny so we should not be impatient,” Guna shared his purpose of going there.

Both of them ate food, after finishing the hard drinks they prepared themselves for sleeping. Guna Bahadur had started dreaming immediately after sleeping. But in the early morning when Indra was still dead to the world he had gotten up. He had gone to a military butcher’s shop and brought different parts of goats’ flesh. He, then, had started slicing down. At the time when Guna was slicing the meat Indra got up and said to Guna, “Brother, you had gotten up so early.” Indra washed up and started helping Guna in his work.

The days of Indra started passing with a Nepali brother with a similar interest. He started learning many works skillfully. He learnt cooking and washing up in the brother’s hotel. He also started doing regular exercises with Guna for joining army. He showed a keen interest in physical training and parade seeing the exercises of the army man. The mutual cooperation of Indra and Guna became a successful teamwork and both earned skills together with gaining money and maintaining their physical fitness.
Unknowingly, about 9-10 months passed there with Guna. Then, there was announcement of a recruitment rally in the recruitment centre. Guna Bahadur also inspired seeing the courage, dedication and bravery of Indra Bahadur. Both of them went to the recruitment centre on the day.
At the spot Indra was asked, “Are you here for taking part in the recruitment or are for here for watching the rally?”
“Sir we are here for joining the army,” both replied together in a monotonous voice.
Then, they were asked to wait at the side of the ground. They were told that Captain Gautam, Subedar Nara Bahadur and RHM Jit Bahadur Gurung would come there for the recruitment. Some other boys also would come and they would also take part in the recruitment. They were told that they would be given prior training for physical fitness, running and jumping. Then only, they would be taken for selection of the boys in the formal recruitment rally.
Despite his small physique Indra joined the recruitment rally. After sometime other boys also would arrive in the ground and in a short while all became ready for the recruitment test. All the recruiting officers also got ready for the rally.
Indra encouraged Guna, “Dai, (elder brother) this time we have to put maximum effort as we have to become army by any means.”
“Ok, bhai (younger brother)”. In a short while Subedar Nara Bahadur started telling to all the boys, “All the brothers who came for the recruitment, pay attention to my words. Today, at first, we’ll have running test. All will start running from Asagrind and you will have to go to Dharampur where you all get a ticket, then you will have to come here once again with the tickets. Did you understand the words?” All gave positive answer in a monotonous voice.
Subedar Nara Bahadur again said, “So, all of you go and fall in the white line in the ground.” All the boys stood in the line properly. Subedar suggested them to run carefully on the way and made them aware about bringing the tickets along with them. He, then, looking at his wrist watch looked at an army cadre and gave a gesture, then, the cadre held his gun on his shoulder. He further made it clear that all the boys should run with the firing of the gun. He gestured to the cadre telling that everything was ready. No sooner the gun was shot the boys started running. Even if Indra was the smallest guy, he became first in running.
After the running test Indra and Guna started talking with each other. They doubted whether they would be selected in other procedures, although they were selected in running. Indra told Guna that he might be thinking that Indra would never become an army, and he furthered looking at Subedar Nara Bahadur that everything was left in the hand of almighty. Subedar instructed them to go at the side of the ground where there was a rope. Army personnel demonstrated the activities to be performed and told all the boys to do the job on the ground. Then they were also made to do pushing up. Once all got the green signal of passing the physical fitness they were called to the medical hall for the X-ray. The Subedar instructed all the selected candidates to take x-ray and come to the recruitment place the next day with the result. “Now your names will be written by Havaldar Q.P. I will take your names tomorrow and you should come in order according to the name list,” said Subedar Nara Bahadur. He went to his office room and left all the boys after he was saluted by the havaldar.
Havaldar left them after noting their names in a diary. Guna and Indra caught a bus of Kaseuli but were thinking of taking food. However, they went to the address given for taking X-ray and then they finally returned to their room. Indra expressed his confidence to Guna telling that Guna would be surely a lahure this time. Guna Bahadur thanked Indra Bahadur for motivating him.

Indra was little bit upset about his height even though he passed the physical fitness test.
“What are you thinking? Why are you contemplating, bhai?” asked Guna Bahadur. “Pray to god and think of your mother’s blessing, everything will be fine,” he tried to make him happy. Subsequently, both of them prepared for cooking food. They prepared food enthusiastically and shared the food. The food was delicious as they were hungry and tired. Then after, they got ready for the bed. Indra could not sleep early but Guna slept very early as usual.
The next day, in the early morning, they did the ablution and after the prayer went to the recruitment ground with they x-ray report. Subedar Nara Bahadur and RP havaldar were already in the ground. Both Indra and Guna greeted the two army officers and handed over their x-ray reports to them. After reading the report Subedar told Indra that his result was excellent, all of his performances were evaluated as the best one. So he had to be kept in waiting. Indra was instructed to go and meet havaldar major in number: 4. Immediately, Guna was also instructed to go together with Indra and told to start the training in the recruitment centre.
Both of them were in high spirits and came back home. Despite all those successes, Indra was little bit confused. “What is waita, dai?” asked Indra to Guna. Guna Bahadur explained, “Waita is also a place in army camp for the one who has not reached the minimum age limit. They will be given training there and they also get chance to study. Don’t worry much.”
“Then, is it true that I have become an army?” asked Indra.
“Yes, bhai, not only you your motivation made me too. I am rather worried about the things that I bought. I am confused whom to present all these household goods. I stayed here like my own home for two years and I bought many things.”
“Let’s give it to a Nepali who has come for joining army, but has not got selection; it will be our great support. He also will earn money using the same thing and fulfill his dream. Even if he does not become a lahure, he becomes a mini lahure when he earns money. Is not it, dai? ” said Indra.
“You have rightly pointed out the thing. I have known a Nepali from long time. He scrubs plates and stays little afar from here; we should hand over all these things to him. His economic condition is also poor as far as I am acquainted with him. He has eloped with a girl from rodhighar and kept his wife in some other people’s house. He had come here bringing the ornaments of his wife fearing the probable brutality of his family members. He does not get salary on time. I should call him,” said Guna Bahadur.
“Let’s go now and bring him, don’t simply say I should call. We don’t have enough time. Tomorrow we have to go to the company for training,” said Indra.
With the force of Indra, both of them went together to the boy’s residence. They met the boy, he was working as usual. He was told to quit the job and come in taxi to their residence.
“Dai, you are only here for me, who else can help me? I have full trust in you dai. You can go now I'll come as soon as I get chance to run away,” the boy said to Guna.
After coming back to their residence Guna said that Indra's ancestors' names were heard but he did not even imagine about the philanthropy of Indra.
"Bhai Indra may god fulfill all of your wishes", wished Guna.
"Dai you're also very supportive, else how I could stay with you in your room?" said Indra.
"Ok, bhai we'll go to recruit company tomorrow. We'll tell that brother to use all the things. He can use whatever needed from our room and buy things according to the necessity. We should tell him to use this room until we pass out our training with the final vow. We'll pay the house rent and he does not to pay the rent. We’ll rather pay the double of the normal one," Guna expressed his generosity.
“This business belongs to him and he is the owner. He will be told to keep a helper and after the helper learns doing all the works, he would be told to go and bring his wife. He'll be told to do the work with wife happily. When we have holidays we'll also help him," further added Guna.
Meanwhile the boy also reached and he was declared the owner of the business owned by Guna. He was extremely delighted to get such magnanimous Nepali brothers in a foreign land.

The next morning Indra and Guna went to the company and started following the army rules. Indra Gurung's motivation of becoming an army helped him so much in training but Guna was little bit weak in training because of his long work in running a hotel.
There was vast difference in army rules and hotel administration. That's why he found really difficult to change the habits that he had in running a hotel. After seven months’ rigorous training and his constant struggle Indra passed out the army training.

As a brave and courageous soldier, Indra was dispatched in the Indo-Pak war of 1971. Both Indra and Guna were deployed under 4 GR in 5/4 GR battalion, at that time the company was working in the place called Bakullo. Both of them went and reported to the head of 5/4 GR. The next day, both were assigned the duties in different companies. Indra was put in A Coy of 4/5 GR in No.1 while Guna was put in C Coy of the same in No. 3 selection.

After allocation of their companies both Indra and Guna were separated while doing their duties. Indra chose PT course when he was given choice for selecting the course. He was taken to Pune for the PT course. At the completion of the course he got the excellent result. Then, he was promoted to the rank of L/NK (unpaid lance nike). Soon after that he was selected for MM course. He was sent to Gulmarg just few miles away from Srinagar for inter walfor course. In MM course also Indra was placed among the A1 results. He was awarded with a medal and a prize for securing third position. He, then, came back to 5/4 GR A Coy where he was congratulated by all the officers for his glorious achievement in the courses. In 5/4 GR battalion army convention Lt. Colonel V. Raja Ram declared that Indra Gurung of A Coy was promoted to Direct Paid Lance Nike for his A1 result in P.T. Course, MM Course and inter walfor course. All the officers of their battalion lauded Indra for keeping the prestige of 5/4 GR. A Coy Commander S. S. Sohata instructed to grant leave for Indra to give him time for rest.
V. Raja Ram said, “Congratulations, Indra, we are in need of person like you. I am very proud of you. Take rest for some days at home and come back.”

Indra left the place with a leave letter offering a salute to the officer. In this way, Indra Gurung completed two courses within duration of less than a year of joining in 5/4 GR. While coming back home he came through the way of Chudhi Ramgha via Tuhure shops. He went to his home without going to the usual road. Indra told the porter that he would go to the other way to meet the girls. He told them that he had been called a porter. He wanted to tell them that he also had become an army.

When he reached the Tuhure shops, there had already been a gathering of people. Such a big gathering was there because of the recruitment rally. Indra met his younger brother and also the girl who discarded him. All the people started whispering something about Indra. They made much fuss about him there. Some said that he had changed after becoming an army. All were little bit jealous of him as they did not count him when he was in the village.
He passed some days meeting the relatives and other neighbors. Many made relatives came to meet him having the knowledge of Indra’s coming back from the army. They came to meet Indra with gifts like chapatti, wine, chickens and mutton. According to the gift items brought by them, Indra’s mother gave them some gifts in return. She gave gifts like money, silver and jewels in return. After some days there was a mela of Saune Sankranti at Raipalli, so all the villagers including Indra went to take part. Some sang songs while some played madal. All the people visiting the fair put costly jeweler’s item.

In the market Indra noticed Prem Singh Gurung, son of Captain Dal Bahadur Gurung. Prem Singh was one of the army cadres of his battalion. Indra called him informally like in the army battalion, “Hello 45, how are you? When did you come on holiday? How long is your holiday?” Both of them started sharing things with each other.

According to the system of the army they called each other by number. One was called by No: 5340945 while the other was No: 955. Both of them went on introducing the all the relatives who came to the fair. Both introduced brothers and sisters, and all the seniors of their village. After the introduction, both sat separately to talk about their army life. They shared so many things about army. They also talked about the girls present in the fair. Their sharing included everything about the girls present there both unmarried and married; about the parents of those girls; about the castes. They focused on many more things that made them known to each other.

After a short while, abruptly in middle of their talk, Indra told looking at Prem Singh, “45, I like that girl very much, I don’t whether she is married or unmarried.”
Prem Singh instantly replied, “55, she is the youngest daughter of Subedar Damber Bahadur, the eldest one got married, second daughter is studying nurse and this one is in grade eight. One of her brothers is in ¼ GR and he is an L/NK while the other is an Inspector in Nepal Police force. These people are our mukhiyaI they are from a prosperous family background. As the youngest one, she is rose of everyone’s eye. She is almost pampered by all. She gets a lot of love from all. Her name is Sidhi Maya.”

There was eye to eye contact with Sidhi Maya and Indra Gurung for some minutes. Both of them looked delightful to have eye to eye contact with each other. Indra sought the help of Prem Singh for meeting wand talking with her. He requested him to help him with proper guidance in talking with Sidhi Maya. Indra already had declared that he liked her so much.
Prem Sigh told Indra, “55, you seem that you don’t know how to flirt with the girls, I’ll rather tell my sister, she’ll help you, they good friends.” In no time the words reach in the ear of Sidhi Maya. She also had already started liking Indra. All the people went back to their home after the end of the fair. When Indra and Sidhi Maya were far apart Indra missed her so much. He started making plans at home without remembering anything. Later, Indra came to know that son of Juthi Gurung Durga and Indra’s were classmates. Since his brother studied together in the school with Durga, he thought he could get great help from him. He called his brother and asked him whether he knew Durga. His brother replied that he knew him, but asked why he was asking him about Durga.
Indra told him to give a letter to Durga so that he would give the letter to Sidhi Maya. After that, Indra wrote a letter to Sidhi Maya and the letter reached Durga through his brother. Durga and Sidhi Maya were relatives and it was not difficult for Durga to deliver the letter but he asked Indra’s brother, “Who wrote this letter to my sister?”
He replied, “It was given to me by my brother.”
Indra and Durga also were also cousins. Mysteriously, with suspicion Durga handed over the letter to Sidhi Maya and requested her to open the letter. Since the letter was the first one, Indra did not write anything objectionable in it. Indra only wrote something colorful in a white paper with few blue words. “If this letter is put into fire it turns out to be ashes very soon, if it is torn into pieces it changes into pieces, if it is preserved it may a history for you, so it is up to you whether to preserve it or destroy it. I would be grateful if you reply.” Durga and Sidhi Maya were excited to read such a letter. Durga said that he did not understand anything while Sidhi Maya read the letter time and again. She wrote a letter immediately.
“Who is this person having audacity to write me a letter? Next Saturday we are celebrating the anniversary of our school so, I would invite this audacious person to write such a letter to me on the day. Who is this person to make a white paper colorful? I would like to see the person in the anniversary. The history also will start from the day.”
Then, she told Durga to hand over the letter to the sender of the letter.
Durga said to her, “Hard times of the person who wrote the letter might have come sister.”
“I also feel like that. Who knows about my family background? All the people run away when they hear the names of my father and brothers but his person writes to me.” Sidhi Maya expressed her pride. Durga also supported in Sidhi Maya’s notion.

Sidhi Maya never thought of meeting the person on the school day. But Indra as a courageous and brave person, determined to go and visit her on the school day happily. He did not have any hesitation to go there as he was feeling strong due to his training and job in army. His status was also not lower than that of Sidhi Maya. He was a person playing boxing from Light Fly; he was eagerly waiting for Saturday. On Saturday he went to the school. He met his friend 45, Prem Singh from his battalion and started watching the programme together.
After the programme there was an announcement that the first girl of grade eight Sidhi Maya Gurung was dancing in the song titled “flower is taken by the flowing water, when will meet in this life”. Indra became so curious and excited to hear the announcement. With the exchange of letters they started knowing each other; they had also started loving each other unknowingly. Sidhi Maya did not know that the letter was written by Indra. Indra was mesmerized hearing the song; he felt that the song was written by her and song was for him. Then, Indra wrote his introduction in a piece of paper, ‘Indra Gurung, son of Lal Singh Gurung, Chandeli Cotgaun, came for first holiday from 5/4 GR’ and passed it to the stage through Prem Singh. He also wrote that he wanted to donate something to the school. He further requested to perform the dance just performed.
Then, the announcer announced the repetition of the dance and the song started. Sidhi Maya danced again with excitement getting the further demand. After the dance Indra went to get the garland and donated some money. He delivered some good wishes to the school for further progress. When Sidhi Maya left the stage Indra praised her dance directly and told her to invite him once again in their programme. He said that he would come wherever it might be to see their programme. He wished to get opportunity like that to watch the school day regularly. Then, he bade good bye to Sidhi Maya telling her Namaste.
After sometime, Sidhi Maya knew that the person writing a letter to her was the same person, Indra. All left for their home after the program. Everyone resumed their ususal duty but Indra remembered Sidhi Maya at home without a halt. He was really obsessed with the meeting of Sidhi Maya.
One day he got a letter from Sidhi Maya telling, “Indra, I am very much ashamed of my letter. I admire all the words written by you. Don’t forget to write again. I will safeguard your letter to make a history.” They already had started loving each other in the exchanges of letters. But the huge problem between them was the barrier of caste. Both of their fathers were the local leader and both were retired army personnel. Both felt the pride of their status in the village and they both did not want to be laid down.
Slowly and usually the days for Indra to leave home came. He thought of eloping with Sidhi Maya before leaving for the duty. But Sidhi Maya feared her parents and requested Indra to come to her house for talking about the marriage formally. She also further said that she was ready to elope with him if her parent denied.
Indra told at his home but none care for it. As no one in his house cared for him Indra went to Sidhi Maya and expressed his thoughts.

“I may become a victim of a bullet any day, they told me to elope with you,” said Indra. Sidhi Maya also understood that until or unless they eloped they did not have any chance to get married. Sidhi Maya said, “I am coming with you leaving my home. I am coming in your trust. The day when our trust betrays, you’ll find my corpse. Come to receive me I’ll be waiting you near our land.”
“You put a torch light in Lankuri waiting shed and I’ll understand that you have come,” wrote Sidhi Maya in a letter.
Indra reached there at the same time and received Sidhi Maya and then brought her to his house and they slept in a granary. They ate something at Thapa’s house when they were hungry. Thapa’s wife also became surprised to see their extremity of love affair.
She said, “How long can you survive in this way? Go and tell the truth to your family members.”
Since they did not have any means to convey the message to their parents they requested Thapa’s wife to convey the message. At first Thapa’s wife was afraid but later, with collected courage, went to Indra’s house and told everything about them. Some of the family members got angry while some said that as everything had happened no one should angry. Indra’s elder brother went to take Indra telling that as a bold young man he would get married next time if he was not given the girl.
“It is no necessary to hide any more. Let’s go home. If Sidhi’s parents agree, we’ll perform a formal marriage ceremony,” said Indra’s brother.
Then, the news spread very soon throughout the village. Immediately, Sidhi’s mother came to take Sidhi back to her home. Her mother nearly finished pulling off the hair and Indra could not tolerate so he went and beg pardon for the mistake. He said that he plucked the fruits forcefully instead of asking, so he said that he was sorry. Sidhi’s mother spit on Indra’s face telling that he was a thief. On the other hand Sidhi Maya said that her mother was a sinner. She asked why she spit on the face someone’s son. She further said that it would be great sin to spit on someone’s face.
Mother furiously told Sidhi Maya that she did not need anyone’s advice and further pulled Sidhi’s hair. Many people had gathered in the verandah, so at last Sidhi’s mother left her as she was unable to do anything.

Sidhi Maya could not take bath for a week due to the pain of her mother’s torture. The days for reporting to his duty approached nearer for Indra so he left his dear one at home. Indra went for the duty leaving Sidhi Maya alone at home.
Indra was totally obsessed with the sounds of Sidhi Maya’s bangles. On the contrary Sidhi consoled herself understanding the obligation of army life. They consistently shared their feeling and experiences through letters. Indra could not get the holiday until the completion of one year for another holiday. He counted down right from his joining of duty. After 11 months Indra got a letter from his brother. The letter came after a gap of long time from Sidhi. As he did not get any letter from Sidhi, he was worried.

It was written that Sidhi was taken back. “She was taken back with a trick telling that her father was seriously ill. Feeling pity about the daughter-in –law, mother sent her home with gift items and a sum of Rs.300 as expenses on the way. She did not know that it was simply a trick to take her back home. They told that her father wanted to meet his youngest daughter before he would die. S o she was sent formally with proper care. But they had kept a boy of their selection, ready for Sidhi’s marriage. As soon as she reached none was found sick she was rather kept in a locked room conspicuously. When Sidhi Maya was kept in a locked room she realized that there was a great conspiracy on Indra. She, then, went to Chandrawati goddess place for committing suicide. Then, in a month she searched four boys of her own caste and eloped with one of the boys. We hear that she went to Kathmandu. Therefore brother we don’t have place to search our daughter-in-law. I beg pardon if we did mistake.” The letter made Indra, almost insane for several days.
He burned down shawls and broke the HMT watch bought in CNN canteen for his beloved. Slowly he got acclimatized. He started removing the memories of Sidhi Maya slowly and steadily. He came back for the second holiday to his hometown.
Indra’s mother and brother retold the story in detail.

As they were responsible and understanding guardians they arranged the second marriage of Indra in Dal Bhanjyang bearing the double expenses. Indra got married under compulsion. He had to get married to save his family prestige and to respect the family members. Indra thought that he would never get a girl like Sidhi Maya. Sidhi Maya’s love always haunted him.
His newly married wife’s name was Balkumari Gurung. Indra started drinking constantly in overdose due to the obsession of Sidhi Maya as she was the first one to love him. She had pure love towards him. He remembered all those past days with romance between Indra and Sidhi Maya. Indra took Balkumari to his unit to save his social status and dignity but there was misunderstanding due to the age difference. Indra was never satisfied with Balkumari. He never wanted to come home during the leave.

Once, Indra left his wife in her mother’s house. He left her during his leave for the third time. He remembered the incident that his mother -in -law had been drunk while singing in Ancha pooja. Indra accepted everything done his in-laws as a jolly man. Yet, he could not tolerate when his mother- in- law started vomiting and using vulgar words. Knowing all these things he never went to his in- laws house. He celebrated the leave on his own way.
Later when he was in his duty, Indra came to learn that his second wife also eloped with someone else. He became happy surprisingly and decided to visit home once again. In the leave he decided not to visit home. He went directly to Chhetrapur in Chitawan district where he already a god sister. He went and met god sister directly. She welcomed him with great enthusiasm. He started living there, enjoying days with the sister and passing time with the new people introduced by her. While going for cinema one day with his new sister, he met a new girl with her. His sister told him that the girl was also of good family background. She also told the girl that Indra was his god brother just came for leave. She further told that he would be married if he got a suitable girl. The sister did the work of introducing both of them with their attractive characteristics. All of them watched the cinema. Although Indra forgot the film name, he still remembered the song, “I saw a dream, house in a city”.
He got opportunity to know further about the girl when they went for snacks. Indra’s sister told that both of them had a good matching. They had similar thoughts and nature according to her. It was told that they should tie nuptial knot immediately. It was also said that there would be happiness on life of both. She intentionally diverted their minds were taken for meal. Indra took the meal telling that the meal was so delicious. The girl also added that the food was very delicious. If the cook was a girl it would be nice to make her permanent wife. He could eat such delicious meal permanently if he married the girl making delicious food like that.
He asked her, “Do you know how to prepare food like this?”
“All say I am good in cooking but I don’t know how I am,” replied the girl.
“One day I’ll come to your home for eating,” Indra tried to know her opinion.
“Definitely you can come to my house? You are welcome,” said the girl.
“How far is it?” asked Indra
“It is very far but you hear if we call from our home,” said the girl.
“Then, I‘ll call you from this sister’s house everyday, ok?” said Indra.
“Ok,” agreed the girl.
After paying off the bill of the food taken, they left. Indra admired the girl very much even though he could not express it. Indra’s day for joining the duty was approaching very near. His ways of passing time were visiting cinema hall, going to Birgunj bazaar for shopping and visiting other nearby big markets for shopping. He told his sister that the time for leaving home came, so, he wanted to go for a cinema once with the girl. Soon his sister arranged for the cinema and invited the girl to go together with them to the cinema hall. Three of them went for watching cinema the next day. The cinema was “Ghar Dwar”.
The film had the story of social contexts. The story was so sentimental and touching to Indra that it made him completely emotional and he cried like anything. At the time of Indra’s falling tears the girl looked at him with a sympathetic mood. He felt ashamed of himself, immediately he controlled himself. After the movie, they went for snacks to a restaurant. Then the girl told Indra that he seemed to have liked the film story so much. He agreed that he liked the film so much. The girl said that she came to know Indra was also a social worker. According to her the job was a good one, she said she also liked it.

Indra expressed his doubt asking whether it was simply a joke. Indra told that both of them had similar thoughts. Therefore they would talk a lot in his next leave. The girl told not to forget her and further said that she would be eagerly waiting for him to talk. She said that lahures were selfish. But Indra instantly replied that he was not that selfish. He bade farewell to her at last.

The next day the time for his departure came. His sister went to see him off. Due to the flood the buses were brought across the river in boats. Sister waved her hands crying, she finally left Indra alone.
After reaching to his battalion he went on writing to the sister. He went on asking about the girl who went together with them in the cinema hall. On the other hand the sister and the girl also had sharing about Indra. They asked who Indra was and expressed their curiosity why he did not go home.
On the other hand Indra also thought of clearing all the doubts in the next annual leave. After a span of around two years Indra received a letter from the sister. “Indra brother, when are you coming? I am longing so much with eager eyes to eat momo and watch cinema together with you. The girl also got married with an army. She told me to convey her remembrance to you. She told me that my brother should be settled here in Chitawan finding a gentle girl for him. According to her you are a social minded person. Since your brother is a good man he should be kept near you. Brother, you should come and get married in Chitawan. You should have ultimate settlement here. ”
After reading the letter Indra contemplated for a while and made his decisions. “It is my duty to fulfill the wish of the girl whether it is a wrong idea or true, it would be known later,” thought Indra.

Then, Indra told the sister about getting married in the coming holiday. He went immediately after some months in a holiday and met the sister. They started talking about the marriage. Indra was taken to a place and showed a small school girl. He told the sister that the girl was very young. Sister said that the age did not make any difference. Actually none can deny destiny, she was my present wife.
“She has been studying, come in the next leave and take her. By then, she will also finish her studies. She will be grown up next time” the sister said.
“I agree with you sister, I am ready to get married with her. If she wants to continue her studies I will bear the expenditure. I will make her a doctor. I will tell her to serve the sick people. I will prove myself right and will show my greatness in front of the enemies. If you can talk about the girl I will inform my elder brother and mother at home. Sister, talk about the matter. If they ask about the family tell them that I am a Gurung by clan. My father is mukhiya Lal Singh Gurung. If they ask about the family members tell them that we are seven brothers and 2 sisters. Among seven six are in army. Sister, tell that my first marriage broke because of the caste while the second broke up due to the unequal status. Tell them clearly that I am here with you making you a god sister. If everything goes right I’ll take the girl to my original home,” Indra sought the help of his god sister.

The sister said, “Even if you had so many siblings, you gave me brotherly love and affection. I am an orphan but also you gave me everything. Such a great brother will surely give brothers, sisters and mother. Therefore I have to help him in his marriage.”

Subsequently, she went for the talk with the girl’s parent, tears were rolling down her cheeks. Her talk was so convincing that girl’s parents became ready at once. All the necessary arrangements for the marriage were made with the due consent of the priest from Shripur. The priest said that the girl was a fortunate one. She got an all-loving husband and is luckily to get a government service holder. There was chance for travelling abroad for the girl according to the priest. The sister asked further about their birth of children. The priest said that everything is right but due to the contrast feelings of the husband and wife there might be danger of enmity. Sister asked the priest about the marriage date as there had been no enemy for them. Coming 15 was the best according to the priest.
“Honey, my grand daughter has become yours. Nurture her very well,” advised the girl’s grand parents after the confirmation of marriage. Then Indra gave some money and told his sister to buy necessary things and went home immediately. Indra told everything about the marriage to his brothers and mother.

Some brothers told him satirically, “Are you going to get married every year? Your friends’ children have started going to field for working.” Indra told that it was his last marriage. He expressed his commitment that he would not even see a girl if that marriage broke up.
Some brothers were doubtful about the girl. One of the brothers said, “He talks about going with a marriage procession. Who is the girl? What is her caste?”
The other brother said in sarcastic tone, “Let’s take one vehicle lying at home and hire one bus from the market and go with some people in the two vehicles. If he gets the girl let’s bring her, if not let’s watch cinema and come.”
“I have made everything ready with the priest’s suggestion and also made the clothes ready for the marriage. They already decided to give their grand daughter even without the mass. They have told me that if my family members did not agree to come have to go myself, alone. Please don’t make joke of it,” Indra explained everything to his brothers.
“Go and bring the sister in law, dai. I‘ll kill a goat and we have buffalo to kill. We will come all the villagers for the feast, all come to eat the meat” joke Indra’ second elder brother.
“If your words are real I will withdraw some money from the bank and will buy the necessary garments for the relatives according to the rituals that have been done,” said Indra’s elder brother.
“You don’t need to buy anything as I have already pre-planned and given money for the clothes,” Indra said.

“Bhai, did not you ask about her family backgrounds? What about her father and mother? Are they like us doing jobs in foreign country?” asked his brother.
“Dai, only her grandparents are there. According to them they went there in 2015 B.S. Among the siblings some are pilots, some are District Education Officers (DEO), and some are Colonels of army. Their family status is also good. It is a suitable clan for us,” explained Indra.

“But I don’t understand how your marriage was fixed in so short time. They don’t have any problem. The pilot comes in aero plane, the colonel comes in army van and the DEO comes in jeep. Other general people will come in different means of transport. They don’t have any problem; since it is a city they have all the facilities. Once they have money no problem is there. This is a village that’s why we need some preparation time. All can’t travel in horse,” said one of his brothers.
All the sisters in law laughed hearing the explanation.

Consequently, the time for the marriage came. All went to the town nearby and hired a vehicle and went to the girl’s house. The girl’s family was eagerly waiting for the groom. Indra introduced all the members to his sister. He also introduced to everyone. Indra’s god sister also became happy getting chance to introduce with Indra’s family members. She felt happy to have such a great brother. All returned back with the new bride to the village after the marriage. In the village, all the public queued for seeing the bride of city. All the people were ready in beautiful clean clothes. When Indra’s mother wanted to see her daughter- in- law she found her very small and said she was a child. Every ritual was performed.
“Your sister- in-law has classes. So, I will go to my in-laws with the girl. She should not miss the class,” requested Indra to his brother.
“Ok, brother, but don’t stay longer in in-laws’ house, else people will start backbiting. The news of giving a land to Indra in his marriage by his father –in-law is spread throughout the village. That’s why we should not degrade the reputation of our ancestors,” advised his brother.

Indra was permitted to go to Chitawan by his mother and brothers. He came to Chitawan with his wife. Indra came back home leaving his wife at her parents’ house. After some days Indra had to go to his duty so, he went to his duty via Narayanghat.
Indra and his wife had regular exchanges of letter. Indra’s sister told him to take his wife with him for studies as the girl grew up now. He was told that the love and affection would be better if they stayed together. Indra’s posting was near to Gantok in the state of Sikkim. His elder brother was also posted in Sikkim in 2/4 GR.

Indra realized something and felt responsible hearing the words of his sister. He took his wife to his battalion. His wife was admitted in the school where his brother’s son studied. He also arranged tuition classes for her. Indra handed over the responsibility of his wife to his brother and sister- in- law. She was admitted to Gantok Tadung Deuri School, near to his brother’s residence.

Indra was posted to a bordering area of China. Since he was in sports, he came to brigade for playing. After some games he finally became a winner. As his department was in Kalimpong he could come to Gantok in every visit. He had the facility of free transport as a government employee. Every week he used to go to meet his wife in a military vehicle. Because of the provision of vehicle, he could have enough time for the core. After sometime the time for the core came and he remained in the core with doing computation course.
Then, he was once again sent for MM course to Gulmarg. After completing the course of three months Indra came to the unit and he completed the field duty of 5/4 GR and got ready for the peace duty. After sometime their unit transferred to Narayani, New Delhi. When Indra’s wife had vacation he also went to meet her in a place called Swasthi. At that time his wife had been living with a girl from Sikkim whose name was Shanti. Meanwhile, Indra’s wife complained that she did not have any interest in living there. She requested her husband to take her with him. So, Indra took her together with him in his post in Delhi. There, in Delhi also, he did many courses. Indra’s wife was frustrated seeing the courses of her husband and told him to resign from his post. Indra also thought of leaving the job and establishing his own business. But in the middle he once came to home and took his brother’s son and his own sister to Delhi for studies. His nephew was admitted to an Army School in Sapatu Shimla admitting him as his own son. His younger sister also started learning Hindi and English typing.
In this way, time passed on despite his interest for establishing his own business. Meanwhile, he once again got an opportunity for getting Ski training but he cancelled finding an excuse of medically unfit.
Indra tried his level best to get retirement. He wrote letter of resignation to different officials in his centre. He finally got a letter of acceptance from his commanding officer.

In the meantime, Indra came back in a vacation of 20 days. Indra wanted to make some plans at home so he went directly to his wife’s house on the way. Indra wanted to utilize the money from pension in a business. Luckily or unluckily when he reached his in-law’s house, his wife’s step- mother was seriously ill and all were performing the last ritual. They were dividing their property at the time when Indra reached. Grandmother and Lalamaya’s husband were writing and allocating the property. Indra asked them about the mother-in-law’s sickness. Grandmother replied that she had TB but it turned out to be cancer. The hospital in Teku also could not treat and gave the discharge. She expressed her pessimism about the recovery of the disease. She said, “It is worthless to expend money anymore. Son-in-law, you have come in the right time. You are lucky to give her gold water. You please give her gold water.”
Indra said, “Grandma, there is a good hospital in Merouli, India. It treats almost all the diseases and many people are recovered in the hospital.”
“Honey, I don’t believe she will survive until tomorrow morning. If she remains alive till tomorrow morning, you take her wherever you like. Don’t worry for the money. We can even sell our land for her treatment,” grandma supported him.

The step-mother became conscious after taking the gold water. Grandma told her that daughter and in-law had come. It was her fortune to be there with daughter and son-in-law.
“If you are taken to Delhi in Merauli Hospital you will be cured. Son-in-law will take you to Delhi tomorrow. We will send you in plane. Your daughter is there with you to take care of you” said grandma to her.
“Son, I am very lucky to meet you. How is my daughter?” asked the sick step- mother.
“Everything is fine. She has given birth to a son. I will go and bring a military vehicle. You and father–in-law will come in plane. I will be waiting for you in the airport,” said Indra.
“You have not reached your home. What would your mother say if you return back from here? What will your wife say if you return without visiting your own home?” said the step-mother.
Indra consoled her telling, “If we are alive we’ll meet all the people later. Don’t say like this. You will be treated very well when I go there. You better take rest now. Think that you will live for hundred years. We don’t have shortage of money, moreover I am an army, and I will make a dependent card making you my own mother. You please take rest now. I will take you there tomorrow and make all the arrangements.”
The step-mother said, “Honey, I am recovered from sickness hearing all these pleasing words from you. You are great of hearts.”
Grandma said, “So far we have four grandsons-in-law but we never found grandsons-in-law like this. The son-in-law remaining at our home expended millions of rupees. Lands of 20/30 lakh were sold every year. At this time, you don’t even care about your own money. You also talk of making dependent card of my daughter. You are treating my daughter as your own mother. You have decided to give her treatment wholeheartedly. Dear, you are so great. You are from a good family background. I have realized only today. I have given so much of dowry to four grandsons-in-law but you don’t take even when I give it. I wish you all the best. Let all of your enemies go below your feet.”

Indra got ready for the next day’s departure for India thanking the old grandma. He requested the grandma to book the ticket for mother-in-law.
“Ok, we’ll provide you the flight ticket before you depart. You wait according to the time given in the ticket,” said the grandma. Indra nodded his head
Indra went to his god sister’s house. HE met her at home and talked for a while.
The sister asked, “Won’t your wife scold you for taking such a sick person?”
“T.B. is not very bad. My wife might get angry but I will convince her. She might think that the TB patient may transfer the disease to other living in the same room. She will surely scold me for that. But after all she is my wife so she will be normal,” said Indra coolly.
“Brother, you have tried your level best to serve your relative; I will also help you from my side. You can go now. I will meet you later,” said the sister.
Indra went to Delhi next morning and went to his room immediately. His wife asked why he returned as soon as he reached there. Indra told all the details fearing his wife. The wife said that the birth of son occurred some days ago.
“The TB disease is communicable to you. Why are you so silly? Why did you bring the patient of TB at this odd hour? Why are you so foolish?” said his wife.
As Indra knew that his wife said all those things because of fear, he did not strictly go against her opinion. She also had some weight in her words. But also he could not tolerate the pains of other so he begged pardon from his wife. The negihbours were telling that there won’t be harm to the son even if there is TB.
Both of them thought of each others betterment in all the matters. Indra also loved his wife so much but he only wanted to help the poor and needy people. In contrast to her husband, wife had never known about poverty. Indra never followed the aims of his wife.

He always concentrated on improving the condition of his home, village and district. Some of the things done by his wife used to exactly match with his thought. Indra always believed in the philosophy of “truth always triumphs”. Indra, all the time used to accomplish his work by any means. Indra’s step mother- in law reached Indira Gandhi International Airport at 11p.m. with her husband Lal Singh Gurung. With the consent of his officer, Indra reached the airport in army vehicle. There was 5341913 NK Gun Bahadur Magar from Mt. Headquarter with an ambulance. He said that he was sent by the officer telling him that Indra’s mother was sick.
“When will your mother reach?” asked Gun Bahadur
“13, wait for a while, they are reaching very soon,” replied Indra.
“Ok, 55, I will be waiting,” said Gun.
In a short while Indra’s mother-in-law came out of the airport. Indra called them towards them. With the help of Guna, Indra kept his mother-in-law in the ambulance and took her to the army hospital. The battalion doctor checked her well. Then, she was taken to main Army Hospital. There they investigated the samples of urine, blood, stool and finally diagnosed that it was TB. Therefore, the hospital recommended taking her to the Merouli Hospital. The monthly cost for registration of a sick person was Rs.1300 (Indian Currency). A person suffering from TB had to be at least treated for nine months. The sick person would be given discharge only when their problems would be totally cured. It was said that the hospital was very expensive so who would be the guarantee.
Indra said, “She is my mother and this is my identity card. I am Havaldar Indra Gurung of 5/4 GR. My insurance number is this.”
Indra remained as the guarantee showing all of his documents. In the money counter it is said that Indra’s insurance would be only enough for his mother’s treatment but he had to pay extra for food and medicine. Indra assured of managing all those things. His maximum effort and dedication made admitted his stepmother-in-law in the hospital. Then, he came to his room with his father-in-law; his wife prepared food and served to them.
“Daughter, you have got a lot of trouble because of your step-mother. Your husband could not reach home as he decided to bring her to the hospital. He does such social works without caring about himself. He has recruited many boys in the army. He has a good relation with all the officers. Most of the officers trust him and when a person goes with his name they get recruited immediately. He comes forward for such things. You are very lucky, my dear daughter. Your husband is so laborious. He is so honest and dedicated. Indra, let there be all the happiness in you. Let there be all the successes. Look at this son, he is so cute,” Lal Singh expressed his feelings.
“At the birth of this son, he gave a party with killing of three he goats,” praised Indra’s wife.
“That’s nothing for him. He is the one to send his wife to school after the marriage. He gives party by any means,” said Lal Singh.

Indra’s wife asked her uncle, “Will grandma come?”
“Of course daughter, grandma, sisters and brothers will also come,” replied her uncle.
“Uncle, we have such a room, you might find it very difficult to stay. You were staying in such a house. Can you stay here?” said the girl.
“It is very hot in Delhi. All will be sent to the terrace for sleeping.”
“That is it; you might have seen the rooms of army man. See the room is like this.”
“Dear daughter, whatever it may be, it is your husband’s earning. Give me whatever you have, if others don’t like, those wealthy people will go and take food in restaurant and sleep in hotel.”
After few days mother of Lal Maya and Manager of Shoe factory Bansbari reached there. Indra’s had to give his duty in New Delhi. All knew about the location of 5/4 GR, so they hired a taxi and directly went to the gate of 5/4 GR and asked where the quarter of Havaldar Indra Gurung was. Then, the gatekeeper Sepoy Chhabilal brought them to his room. Indra and his wife greeted them formally. Then, Indra brought all the required food items and his wife prepared it well.
“Daughter, it is said that the rum of army canteen is very tasty. We want to have some drinks,” said her uncle.
“I have not given you rum as it is day time. Moreover my husband does not take a single drop of wine. But he has brought some bottles of wine for the guests. You can drink it in evening time, at the time of dinner ,” said Indra’s wife.
“We Nepali don’t care whether it is day or night. Please bring some bottles here. We’ll open up ourselves. You go and fry some meat” said all of them.
They, instead of visiting the sick women spent their whole day drinking and playing cards.. Days passed on like that. Indra’s wife cooked food thrice a day and uncle took food to the hospital for the sick women. Indra did his duty as usual. Indra was also surprised to see the family of his wife’s uncle. They all passed time drinking and playing cards neglecting the sick person. Grandmother also requested them to go to visit the women but they did not have enough time because of drinking government rum and playing cards.
At last, grandma said, “Babe, there is no love for others’ earning. They would save if it was earned by them.”
Grandma appreciated the work and greatness of her grand daughter. She said, “I will move home now. You come after the recovery of sickness. I will give you the land of Chhetrapur, Tandy but I will transfer the land near to Rampur College in the name of my grand daughter.”
Indra said immediately, “I will sustain your grand daughter anyhow. Why are you worrying about her? First of all think about the recovery of your daughter.”
“She is recovered totally. The person who was given gold water yesterday can sit and talk now. She is almost recovered. There won’t be anything to my daughter,” grandma expressed her confidence.
“Grandma, life of human is in the hands of our almighty god. I have simply tried for her recovery,” said Indra
“There is a saying darling, if you stitch in time it saves nine, so you have tried it on time and she is alright now. We are luckily enough to give successful treatment to my daughter”
In this ways days passed on. Grandma returned after some months. Stepmother, uncle and all other people return after the complete treatment.
Stepmother said, “Honey, I have got my life because of you. I don’t have words to express my gratitude. Now we are moving. We’ll stay together when you come back after pension.”
After this, Indra came together with them up to the train station to see them off.

Indra’s wife talked about the treatment at home with her husband. Indra was not even afraid of anything. He believed in god. When his wife complained of bringing a TB affected person, he said that everything would be fine. It was because of godly power that they were there. If god wanted all would be fine. He further said that nothing would happen as far as they did right thing. They went to different wars but he was never injured but many of his friends died on the spot, many lost their hands, many got their legs fractured but he was still alright.

His wife said, “Things are alright only when we are strong but there may be problem when our fate guides us in wrong way. Why you knowingly brought the person with communicable disease? It is something like a self suicide. You are also right but we can’t think of other when we are unsafe. ”
“My darling, you are right but I am habituated to help people. I can’t tolerate others suffering. How can I forget? How can I discard such thing?” said Indra.
“It’s ok, now we are retiring from this army life. We will have to start our own business. We will not have time for social work,” said the wife.
“Let’s sleep now. We have not been sleeping properly for several months. Those people also have gone. So you also get relaxation,” said Indra.

After this, Indra started contemplating about the retired life. He was worried how he could manage buying things in civil as he had been surviving with government ration. He further thought that his wife would not agree to stay in village. That is why Indra decided to start a business in Narayanghat with the amount from pension.

With a firm determination Indra opened a fancy shop “Emporium” of clothes with the new beginning of retired life. He started bringing goods from India, Singapore and Hong Kong. He also started selling goods and showing cinema in Turture. Indra continued giving money and other things to poor and needy. He used to run his business smoothly; sometimes in Kathmandu and sometimes in village. One day two Bhote boys with a girl came to his shop and complained about the high price. Then he told them to give the amount just keeping the margin for his busfare.
The customer said, “If you give us the goods in reasonable price like this, we will come regularly.”
Indra replied, “Brothers and sister, tell me whatever you need, I will give in reasonable price whenever I am here. Where do you live? I have seen you for the first time.”
The girl customer said, “We stay in Chhetrapur in the house of Ghamanarayan Shrestha in rent.”
Indra further said, “They are also from our locality. We used to be there in the same village. I know him well.”
“That means our house owner and you belong to the same village, yea?” the girl instantly replied.
“I you need any help, inform me I will be in your service”.
The girl said, “Ok, brother, we will certainly tell you. We stay very near. We go on passing from your shop everyday. Whenever we go for cinema or for shopping we come to your shop.”

The girl and boys used to visit Indra’s shop once in every two days. One day they suddenly came and told Indra that they were not properly known to him. Since they were new he might not trust them.
“We wanted to share something with you but we are feeling hesitation. Our business is completely different from yours,” said one of the girls.
Indra said, “Since we are neighbors tell me what the problem is. We don’t need to care for the business in neighbors’ relation”.
The girl became astonished to hear the words of Indra.
“We are also business person but we do different business from yours. Our goods have been seized in police office so we need some money for the retrieval of the goods. We know none of the people here, so, we are with you. Tell us what rate of interest you want. Give us time for one week we will repay it with extra money,” said the girl.
Indra said, “Money is simply for the borrowing. I don’t need interest; you rather tell me what amount you need?”
They said reluctantly, “This time we need around two hundred thousand rupees. While giving it back we will add some handsome amount there.”
“Take the money but return it on time as I also have to go to Singapore and Hong Kong for buying goods. This money is for buying goods so understand it very well. Take it but return it on time. You please remain here taking coffee I will bring money from the bank,” requested Indra.
Then, Indra went telling the worker girl to bring coffee for them.
He said, “If the amount is not enough please tell me I‘ll give you more money.”
They said, “It will be enough for today, we may come next time if we need.”
They went with the money that day. Two Bhote brothers did not come for around a week but the other girl came every alternative day. At the end of 8 days they brought Rs. 200,000 with 50 thousand rupees in addition. Indra said that he was confused to get the extra money. They explained him that they did not have any interest rate. They give money to one which they trusted, thinking him as their family member.
“You trusted us and lent the money. So we have shared the part of our profit,” said one of the Bhote.
“If you have given this thinking me as your family member, I will take it,” said Indra.
In this way his business also continued with prosperity. One day Indra was invited to Bharatpur in the house of Oileni Tamang for a party. In the party many Tamang girls and boys were there. He was welcomed in a cordial way.
“I want to put flowers and congratulate the couple. Whose marriage is it? I could not recognize,” said Indra.
“Our Tamang community does not get married with playing of drums and music. The bride is there and he is the groom,” said one of the persons present there.
“We also do similar things in marriage. We elope from the rodhighar and later give them a grand party,” added Indra.
Then, Indra put the garland and gave some money wishing them all the best.
Before they started for the return he was told, “Your friend has got a bag with some goods; he is little bit drunk and the goods also give a foul smell so keep this near to the chicken coop.”
Indra kept the goods according to what they said. After 7/8 days some youths came and wake Indra up at night. Indra’s wife told him not to open the door. She said that there might be drunken boys.
“We have treated many people in the war. Why should I get afraid with the drunken boys in my own house?
Then he took out a khukri and said, “Who are these? What do you want? Why have you gathered around my house at this night?”
One of the boys said, “We have come to take the goods brought from Oileni Tamang’s house. Give us the goods.”
“You could have come during the day. Why did you come at night? Moreover it was said that the goods belonged to Manange. It would be better if you come with Tamang brother,” said Indra.
“We have come with his instruction. We have been told to go back soon,” said one of the boys.
Indra went inside and brought the goods. But the boys said that it was not the original one. They asked him where the original was.
Indra replied that that was the original one. “It is better if you bring Tamang brother once he knew everything. He said that he did not have any idea, Tamang brother only knew about it.”

“All of them were arrested by the police as they were involved in poaching and smuggling many things like the horns of fox, skin of tigers, etc. Among the things to be smuggled, we knew that some was brought to your house from Oileni Tamang’s house,” said one of them.
“This is the thing brought from there, take it now. If I knew that I would not bring it,” said Indra. All of them were arrested for the smuggling.
Indra had to go to the police post for settling this case. In this case, some said that they would finish the case in two days claiming them to be the advocates. Some said that they were in police so they would finish up such cases in one day. The other would say that he worked in District Administrative Office. In this way they went on taking the bribery but none settled the case. Likewise all ran after Indra. Many people came to Indra Emporium at Narayanghat, introducing themselves as great people and took tea, coffee, beer, whisky and other things free of cost. All of them played different role against Indra.

Indra, sometimes, used to visit Kathmandu and stay in relatives’ hotel for going to Singapore and Hong Kong for the necessary goods. One day Indra went to a restaurant for having sancks at Durbar Marga, at that time 4/5 people came in motor cycles and had food there. Indra had heard that there were more than three founders of the restaurant. All were ex-British Army, as Indra was also a business man so he sometimes looked at them while they were talking, sometimes he heard carefully to their talks.

They were talking about the demands of worker for Arab and also for the demand of ex-army man in Canada, America and the UK. Indra ultimately came back to his room and the next day he went for the meal at the same time and asked the waiter. “Do you know the people who came in motor cycle yesterday? What do they do?”
The waiter replied, “One of the men is our boss, honorable Captain, son of a doctor in Belgium. Others were his friends.”
Indra asked again, “Do they take the workers in foreign countries?”
“They do only such works. Sir, you also look like an army man. Are you an army man?”
“Yes, I am an army man but I have got retirement.”
“Are you also interested to go abroad? Most of the ex-army men always go abroad within two months of their retirement. Why do you want to go abroad?”
“Brother, there is vast difference between army life and civil life. We find it very difficult to pass time as a civil man. We have become habituated to follow the commands of other. That is why it is our compulsion to go abroad for work.”

“You can go abroad an earn money but we can’t go abroad. We are living here in a rented house for studies. Parents have sent us the money earned by selling goats and hens here for our studies. When money does not come on time, the house owners force us to leave the house. So I am working here to support my studies,” the waiter expressed his pains.
“Your parents also have many obligations, I am very happy to hear your words. You have been earning and learning, keep it up,” said Indra.
Then he took a hundred rupees note and gave it to the waiter. He gave the money for buying notebooks and pens for the boy’s studies.
Indra asked him, “Your boss send people to foreign countries, so can you give me his telephone number?”
“Why not? I can give it now,” the waiter replied.
Then, the waiter took out a visiting card of the founder and handed over to Indra. On one side of the card Benjing Pump and in the other side Export-import was written.
“If you call here in this number, Captain Suk Bahadur will respond to you. Here, there are many founders, if you call him all will be in the network,” said the waiter.
“It is alright brother, now I am moving, I will be calling on telephone regularly. If I happen to call in your presence you’ll recognize my voice, wont you?” said Indra.
“Of course, I will. You are the first one to give me hundred rupees for my studies like this. When you come this way, please visit our restaurant and have at least a cup of tea,” said the waiter.
“Sure, for today I am leaving.”

Then Indra took his bag and baggage and kept in a shop. He returned back to his Narayanghat after two days.

He resumed his business as usual after the Kathmandu visit. While Indra was arranging his clothes and things, four army men and one civil boy from Bharatpur arrived there.
“We have come to see your shop as our children said that there was shop of a lahure in Narayanghat. Is it you?” said one of them.
“Yea, I am running a shop. I don’t know how long it continues. Please be seated. What shall we take? Cold or hot?” Indra showed his hospitality.
“Ok, we’ll be taking it after a while,” said all of them
There was tea shop in front of Indra’s shop so he demanded some 7 cups of tea. The tea server also agreed to prepare it within some minutes. They had conversation while sipping the tea. As all of them were ex-army their thoughts were similar.
Indra asked, “What are you doing these days?”
“What to do? We don’t have anything to do. We are passing time by drinking and playing cards. We are thinking of going abroad for work. Is it possible? We could not do the work we wished. We don’t have idea to do business,” replied one of them.
Indra said to them, “I have recently come from Kathmandu. The founder of the restaurant I visited at Durbar Marga has been sending people abroad. I visited there to take food but came to know from their conversation about it. The restaurant was opened by some ex-army men. According to their conversation I heard that they send people to Arabian countries as well. The waiter also said that they had sent many people abroad. It is their profession. Their main profession was to send people abroad; the restaurant is only for showing.”
They said, “Indra, you please get the detailed information about it.”
“I am going to Kathmandu next week. I will ask the details about it,” said Indra.
“Ok, you please go and get the information. If they are really good people we can give you some money for your information,” said all of them.
“I don’t need anything like that. You can help me by buying necessary goods from my shop. It will help my shop improve its condition. In addition we will have good friendship. That’s why don’t tell anything about giving me commission for getting the information.”
Then, all of them went requesting him once again to get the detailed information about going abroad.

At the time of Indra’s visit to Kathmandu, he told the same waiter about those people who were interested to go abroad. The waiter assured of telling to his boss. Then he immediately told the boss about them.
The boss said, “There is vacancy for 100 army men in Canada for the work of grazing sheep and chopping wood. But we have demand only for 40 people. If you are interested to go, come along with fifteen thousand rupees and passport immediately.”

Indra told all these things to the ex-army men immediately after returning from Kathmandu.
They said, “If it is true we’ll give you triple check of 5000. Please complete this task by any means.”
Then Indra collected fifteen thousand each from them and handed it over to the captain with their passports. Indra came back from Kathmandu and telephoned regularly to the captain. The waiter said that boss had gone to London, and he was not sure of his back journey. Indra became upset hearing the words of the waiter.

One after a long time Indra decided to visit the restaurant. He saw a person talking with the captain there and greeted him instantly. Indra gave his introduction to him. The new person also responded by introducing himself as Ram. Indra told that person that he had seen him talking with the captain.
Indra further said, “That is why I wanted to have better introduction by drinking beer, therefore I called you. I called you without knowing, but please don’t mind ok. I don’t stay here; I have a small business in Narayanghat. I came here to buy things. I sometimes enter this restaurant whenever I come for buying goods.”

Indra further asked, “What is you profession?” Indra, gestures to the waiter. Then, both continued talking looking at the menu.
Ram replied, “You are a shop owner, isn’t it? I have come here for celebrating holidays. I will be back within some weeks. We shall be meeting in other holidays. For now what shall we take?”
Indra said, “I will drink a bottle of beer. What about you?”
“I also will take a bottle of beer,” said Ram
“Which army are you in? Here or there?”
“It is there but I am not an army. I am a civil servant.”
“Which country you are in? Are you in Japan or Germany or America or Korea?” asked Indra
Ram said, “I am near to German. I am in Belgium. I can be considered as born there. I was taken by a doctor from Belgium even if he knew me as a Nepali. I am allowed to come every year to Nepal as they knew me that I am a Nepali. When I come, I take everything here in this restaurant.”
“Ram, you have not forgotten your blood relation. You are great. That means you have come here to celebrate holiday, isn’t it?”
In this occasion Ram ordered Black level and soda. Then Indra invited Ram to visit Chitawan National Park during his holiday celebration.
“If you happen to meet captain sahib, please bring him together. I wanted to have talk with captain sahib also,” said Indra in a serious tone
“Indra, did you have anything special to talk with the captain?” asked Ram
“I don’t have that important work but I had given rupees fifteen thousand each from four army men with their passport for abroad job but no response came till now so I have come here. Those army men are worried about it. They frequently come with me demanding the money and say that they need it if the work can’t be done. Therefore, I want captain sahib to return the money and passport if work can’t be done,” said Indra
“Indra, wait for the captain to come, if we can’t get the work done by him. I can take them to Germany or Belgium and provide them work in garment factories. Don’t worry for that. If those army men agree to come here, they will come here personally. Tell them to come and visit me personally. I will talk to them personally. Tell them to come with money. We can take the passports from captain sahib later,” assured Ram.

All the army men were called by telephoning according to Ram’s suggestion. They all came and gave Rs.10000 each to him after a talk with Ram. They all put their Rs. 25000 in vain. Ram told Indra to give him a call after reaching there. He told Indra to send those four army men after his phone call. Indra trusted all the people as he never learnt misguiding people in his army life. Indra started contemplating on the way of life a civil man lives. Indra felt very difficult to continue his job in his own nation. He had already given the money to captain and Ram but still the work was not accomplished. Ram never phoned him even if he was told to give him a call and captain also did not come back from UK. Indra gave money through his hands so he was so much worried about the money given to them. All those lahure blamed Indra for handing over that money to those unknown people. They demanded the money return from Indra. In this way Indra was tortured for many days. But, one day there was suddenly a telephone call from Ram. He told him, “Indra, everything has been made ready. You send those people to Frankfurt Airport. I will come to receive them. If they can’t meet by chance tell them to call me in this number in the hotel where I reside.” He gave the telephone number and address of Hotel Uidan. Indra became extremely happy and delivered the news to those army men.

They requested Indra to go together with them to Frankfurt. “It will be an exciting journey; you have a golden opportunity to travel to Germany. We will give you all of our travel checks to you if you go,” they proposed
Indra said in disagreement with the proposal, “My business will be totally spoilt.”
But they gave him continuous pressure to go together with them. They said that his business won’t be spoilt in some days. According to them it would not take 2/3 days on the way and for the stay in Germany he could stay around a week. They further proposed, “We’ll provide all of your travelling expenses from our travel check. You don’t need to spend any money for the travel. You are travelling abroad free of cost, is not it a good idea? Don’t lose this golden chance.” Indra got diverted his mind and decided to travel with them.

All of them left Chitawan for Kathmandu and Indra was also delighted to come together with them in the journey. After reaching Kathmandu they gave all the responsibility of visa and flight ticket to Trinetra Travels.
Trinetra travel told them to fill up the form for the ticket. They took a form and completed the task. They were told that the total cost of ticket excluding the form would be Rs. 22000 with a seasonal discount and VAT charge. They were told that it would be Rs. 25000 if it was in good season. They submitted Rs.27000 and waited for the travel check and ticket.

They got their travel check and ticket immediately and they got ready for leaving Kathmandu for Frankfurt.
All of them reached Frankfurt on 1st January 1990. Ram was there to receive them in the airport. Indra was so much happy because of the achievement of his work. They hired a taxi and went to Hotel Uidan. They had some conversation with Ram and also with themselves.

Ram told Indra, “Indra, since you have come here with me, let’s go to Belgium with me. I would give you some more ideas of business. I have works and you have the people so you don’t need to worry. Indra trusted the words of Ram and decided to go with Ram to Belgium. They reached Belgium after sometime and stayed in a house of Romus madam in the city of Brussels. Time went on passing but they never got chance to do the work they wanted. All of them became empty handed and Indra asked 1200 dollar from his younger brother. His brother sent the money but Indra did not receive it. Then, Indra ordered 2000 dollar from Holland but the money was only enough for few days due to the big number of people to be sustained by the money. Due to the shortage of money their problems went on increasing day by day. Indra was upset due to the condition they were facing in Belgium. As he had not seen anyway, he made a network with Indian there. As a result, Indra got a job of washing a car everyday. He paid money for the friends’ food with the daily wages he got from washing of car.

Due to the connection with Indian he went on getting novel ideas there as the Indians were experienced and old ones. According to their suggestion, Indra went to Sabnayub Ashram and became a refugee. Government of Belgium arranged accommodation and food for Indra. He continued getting different types of experiences and skills. He also suggested his friends to use their brain. He said that if they had brain before like that they would not have any trouble. He further said that they would not be deceived if they were wise like that. He advised all of his friends to open up their mind. He made it clear that he would no more manage for their food and lodging. He suggested them to become refugees as they would be provided with food and lodging. But his friends did not want to become refugee there. They told that they felt shame to become refugee.

Indra told them seriously, “If you can’t compromise with the situation you better go home. We are not in our in-law’s house. We are here in a foreign land. I am also an ex-army like you all. I have been working with anything I find here but now I am unable to sustain you.”
But his stubborn friend could not be convinced with his words. With the completion of one month he went to social office for his allowance and received a sum of 21000 (local currency). He got the similar amount from his job as well. As a result he got a visa of 2 year with the Nepali passport. Indra frankly told his friends that he would not tell anything if they did not believe him at that time. He further said that he would sacrifice his contribution and stop helping them then after.

After that, Indra decided to call his wife and children. He went in search of proper agency to bring them. Finally he reached in a social work division. Indra did the work of bringing a landlord from house to and fro. Later the boss provided him a house to live in. He regularly worked with dedication from 7 a.m. to 9p.m. Therefore he earned a sum of 68 thousand local dollars. Consequently Indra’s friends were jealous of his earning. They said that Indra would buy whole Nepal if he earned money in that amount regularly. Indra told his friend that luck did not come trumpeting. Therefore, according to Indra, one had to make his fortune himself until false destiny knocked down upon them.

“I also came together with you. You know the money I asked from Holland and Honk Kong. Without working how can I pay it off?” Indra explained them.
I n this way Indra went on encouraging them. One day they said, “Indra, you are so laborious person. We talk about you all the time. We never did such thing in life and we were brought for job. Therefore we felt shy to do jobs like you did. Moreover we have invested huge amount of our money in the name of coming here. So far we have not got any money. We also don’t have the chance to return home without a single penny. If we go home, we are worried about the money we borrowed from people while coming here. If we go empty handed we can’t pay off the debts. We don’t have any option except to become refugees in order to earn money so we are thinking it seriously.”
Indra coolly said, “Whatever passed is passed, now let’s think for the betterment. Please register yourselves as refugees. We need to change ourselves according to the situation. Government also provides money. Little allowance from the government will motivate us for further earning. If we earn something it won’t be any problem for us to go home as we can pay our debts off easily. Now I am thinking of bringing my wife and children here. I have got a visa for two years so I will convince an amiable friend and bring my wife.”

After some days Indra made all the necessary arrangements for his wife. Indra sent money from there and the agent prepared all the documents needed for his wife’s visit. As there were requests from his friends, he also planned to bring some of his friends’ wives along with his wife. So he included their names in the list. After all the necessary preparation, Indra’s wife and his friend’s wife reached France. Indra went to France and brought them to Belgium. His friends went to a refugee camp and started staying there. Indra with the due consent of the boss built his own house. On the other hand, Indra’s wife would become pregnant and did not want to give birth to a child. Indra tried his level best to convince her to do contraceptives after the birth of that child. But his wife refused and gave him a lot of torture.

Subsequently, Indra agreed with the wife’s stubborn request and decided to abort the child. Then, he took an appointment with a doctor for the abortion. Doctor told them to pay 3500 local currency for the abortion. He told both husband and wife to sign in the form. He requested them to visit the hospital the next week on the same day at 3:30 p.m. Indra and his wife came back with giving a formal greeting to the doctor. Both husband and wife debated about the loss of money and child. Indra was in the opinion that it would be a great sin to kill the baby and pay such a huge amount. Indra’s mind did not work, so, both were angry against each other.
The day for the appointment came and both went to the hospital to meet the doctor. They reached the hospital at 3:30 p.m. and waited in the waiting room. In a short while there was a telephone call. The nurse in the reception changed her facial expression immediately. She became so serious. It was the telephone informing that the doctor could not come due a family accident. The doctor succumbed to the family accident. The nurse came to the waiting room where Indra and his wife were waiting and told the details of everything that happened with the doctor. She further requested them to visit the next week with another appointment.

Indra came back with his wife without telling a single word and resumed his work. He firmly decided that he would not abort the child however strongly his wife would request. The accident of the doctor gave him a lesson that in the time of aborting baby the person performing the abortion died. Therefore he thought that it was not wise to abort such powerful baby who killed the doctor instead. He thought that the death of the doctor was a bad omen. But his wife always quarreled about the abortion but he never paid any attention to his wife.

Indra instead, told his wife to hand over the baby to him immediately after the birth. In that way the time passed swiftly and the time for the baby’s birth came. Indra took his wife to a hospital. A girl baby was born after a night after their registration in the hospital. Indra was excited to find a girl child as he did not have any daughter. Indra’s wife told her husband with enraged mood that he got what he wanted. She told him to take care of the baby. She gave the baby to Indra. Indra with patience took care of the baby.
As Indra was born and brought up in a village he knew troubles and pains of life. He had good practical knowledge about rearing a child but his wife did not have any knowledge of pains in life since she was grown up in a town. Due to this contrary upbringings of the husband and wife there was difficult situation to adjust each other. Indra, however, liked one thing about his wife. She never told lie and she was outspoken. She told the reality immediate ass soon as she felt. Indra knowingly never paid any attention to his wife for fulfilling his determination. He had only one ambition in his life, he wanted to serve poor and needy; he wanted to be a social worker but his wife never liked his social- mindedness.

Indra, despite his wife’s intervention continued serving people. One day Indra had an interaction with a beautiful girl and appointed her as a secretary of his Cultural Organization. Indra wanted to bring some Nepali girls from Nepal in their Cultural Organization and discussed about the matter with the girl. The girl gave a green signal. So Indra called his sister in Nepal and told her to go there in a cultural exchange programme. His sister was also a social worker and had her own organization so it was not difficult for Indra to invite his sister His sister also had been working in the same organization. Indra was very delighted to learn about his progress.
Indra shared everything with his wife but never told about the lies he told to people for his safety and smooth progress. One day his wife knew all of his works of deception and immediately phoned her father. Her father learnt that Indra’s work was for the right thing so he phoned Indra. The phone was picked by his wife; since Indra was present there the phone was given to him.

Indra’s father- in- law said to Indra, “Both the daughters used to sleep in a bed. They studied in the same school in the same class. Their dream was to remain together forever. That’s why another daughter always tells about going with her sister. Daughter has not allowed me to remain stable when she heard about the cultural programme brought by you to take people abroad. That’s why I will bear the cost needed for her processing. I am ready to provide you the land and other things from my side for recognizing your contribution.”

Indra could not hear all those never-ending requests of his father-in-law. So he told him to hand over his daughter’s passport to Indra’s sister. Indra was thanked cordially and kept the phone. Then, Indra shared the things with his wife. “Your father is so good, he is ready to give his daughter and land both for me. Am I not very lucky?”
Indra was not at all happy with his father -in –law and further said to himslef, “If I call him insane he is a District Education Officer. If I call him normal he entices his own son-in-law with money and land.”
Indra felt extremely bitter when he remembered the film he viewed during his army life giving a message that both father-in-law and mother-in-law are parents. He finally decided to give chance to call another daughter of his father-in-law thinking that he was after all their son-in-law.

After the telephone Indra was scolded like anything by his wife. Indra gave a Hindi dialogue “aage aage dekhte jao kya hota hai” (go on looking forward what happens further). The Brahmin in Indra’s house added to Indra’s dialogue, “ jo bhi hoga acha hoga”( whatever happens that is good) I have believed with brother. He does not simply tell him to hand over his daughter’s passport to his sister. That’s why (to Indra) brother, please keep a seat to my wife. I will start massaging your legs from today onwards. Bhauju, (to sister-in-law) you are lucky to get such a husband he is a great person. I am preparing a delicious Nepali tea for both of you.”
Indra’s wife said, “Your brother was already mad. You also have become mad now.”
It was already dark when they continued talking in that way. In the next morning early Indra’s wife called to her father and knew the reality of her husband talk with her father. Then she shared the thing with his friends. Hearing the words of Indra’s wife, other people also requested Indra to bring their wives. Some requested to bring their wives while some requested to bring their husband. There was a heap of money on the table together with the request. Indra told them not to offer any money. He made it clear that he was not a broker working with a huge sum of money.
He said, “It is my first effort therefore I don’t have much trust in it. If I become successful in my endeavor I will include your people in the next trip. Take all this money back.”
Then he returned the money to respective persons.
Indra’s wife said to Indra, “If the work is genuine it is not bad to take the money. If the work does not become successful we can return the money later. It is not good to return the wealth coming at home.”
Indra said, “I have been sustaining myself with struggle since I was of 17 years. I did not have shoes on my feet when I was 17. I had no education. I had been passing time in cutting grasses, chopping firewood, digging field and carrying loads. You as a fortunate child got birth in city and you are still in city. There is clear vision of poverty in my eyes. Around 70% of the daughters-in-law go to the forest in search of food due to the scarcity of food at home. Many of them fall prey to wild animals. They wear tattered and foul smelling clothes. Several of them are with lice on their head. Therefore to mitigate these problems I, Nepe Gurung, have been struggling here. First, look at your home then to your village and ultimately country and the world. We have everything, clean clothes to wear, good house to live in, good food to eat whenever we want and the entire physical infrastructure we need. Therefore let all these people make their family first and do other things.”
But due to the higher education than Indra, his wife took all the words negatively.
She said, “Indra I am your wife. You always talk about the old conservative way of life. You always talk about family. It is not bad to show our generosity when we have enough for ourselves. You want to give to other without keeping anything for yourself. This is the habit that I don’t like in you.”
Because of these contradictory thoughts in husband and wife there is lot of misunderstanding. Both of them firmly stood on their opinion.

Indra I while bringing a cultural group of 20 he many relatives including his wife’s sister. Indra was in the intention to bring his family members to Europe in the name of cultural group for uplifting their economic standard. His wife was happy to find her sister together with her. She was happy finding her talkative husband do successful work. She expressed her pride among her friends.

Many of the negative minded people wanted to allege Indra of illegal work. They even tried to report t top the police for charging him of doing illegal work. Since his work was for good intention all the efforts of his enemies did not become successful. Indra was got further motivated to find his rivals unsuccessful.

Indra shifted his family members in another city due to the jealous people around him. He was unable to bring back his wife and daughter back to his residence. Then he deceived the government in telling that he had left the family members. Indra ultimately started another journey of life with a new way in his effort to serve humanity.

He left the city and started living in a new city. He suddenly heard the news that his wife and daughter got accident. He was told that his wife had been hospitalized and his daughter was taken care by a person. Indra was in complete dilemma, he did not know what to do. If he went there he would be arrested by the police if he did not go there his near and dear ones are seriously injured.

Indra found the telephone number of his wife and phoned her immediately. He told his wife, “Let the injuries be healed. Tell the judge Panc to prepare your case. After the recovery request the Indian (he gave the name and address) to bring him.”
Indra, with ups and downs in his life, started living once again together with his wife.
When he was with his wife he was working in a restaurant so he had keen interest in opening a restaurant. He opened a restaurant but due to his fake documents he was caught. He then, lived sometimes with doing a job sometimes running his own business. Since all of his earning was worsening he was unable to fulfill the demands of his wife. The more he tried to promote his restaurant the more worse it became.

One day he again opened a restaurant with a joint partnership with an Arabian. Indra and his wife had a joint account in City Bank. Indra used to deposit his money earned from his work place there in the same account. All of a sudden the money stopped coming to his account as they started paying the workers’ wages in their own way.
Indra gave an advance of 6500D.M.for opening the restaurant including the amount of house rent for the restaurant by singing in the check of his joint account with his wife for opening the restaurant.

His wife was ready to go home in a holiday. He collected some money for home, some from his work and some from his restaurant income. Since Indra had to look after the restaurant he could not take care of his daughter so he kept a baby sitter for her.

Indra managed his business together with rearing his child with the help of babysitter. After the arrival of his wife back from home, people reported many things about him to her. He checked his bank account of City Bank even if he knew where the money was. His wife also knew about the money but she filed a case telling that her money had been lost. Bank also had the record about the withdrawal of the money. When inquired about it City Bank said that the money was used in deposit and rent for the restaurant. His wife was told that her husband had signed to withdraw the money. As the wife was money minded, she never cared about husband’s business. He opened a new restaurant, he could be far better if wife supported in the business.
Indra’s partner’s wife was working in bank so she brought a letter from the bank and read it in front of Indra. It was written that if his wife did not withdraw the case from the judge there would be a great problem. He had to pay the amount withdrawn from the bank in absence of his wife. He also had to pay the charge for the judge.

Finding such a letter from City Bank, he told that he wanted to pay off the money to his wife. Indra got another letter from the bank and he paid the amount on monthly basis. Although Indra paid back the money to his wife his trust for her was gone. So he handed over the key of his restaurant to his partner and went to a new city. He made a passport with the name of Kiran Gurung and got ready to travel to the UK. He was caught in the border while trying to enter the UK. He was sent to Holland as he travelled with a pass of Holland.
After some days he saw his daughter in his dream. Then, he phoned his advocate.

The judge said, “You have only two days. Where are you? Come back very soon.”
Indra caught a taxi immediately after giving a green signal to his advocate and went there. As he did not have any pass he was caught by the Holland police and handed over to German police. German police sent him to his place after charging the fine. He went to a friend’s house and went to meet the advocate with his friend. The judge got furious and told him to go to the visa office with a letter. Indra and his friend went to the Visa Office but Miss Ring said showing the two policemen at the back, “I am sorry. They have been waiting for you.”

The two police men put the handcuffs and arrested him. Then Indra requested his friends not to reveal the thing to any of the people. He further requested him to go to the advocate and tell about the matter. Indra was sent to prison on 15 may and the court declared a punishment of two years imprisonment.
Indra put the clothes of a prisoner and sent with his prisoner number: 331. Indra passed his time with patience and tolerance. He was kept in a small cell, completely dark and dry. He sometimes cried in pain, he sometimes talked alone like a mad man.
He found a creative way to pass his time in the jail cell. Sometimes he wrote songs, sometimes he wrote stories. One of his songs in the cell is:

Passed in suffocation
Many days and nights

Wept restlessly in recollection
Reminiscence would haunt

Heart stolen, broken into pieces
Eyes emptied by the rolling tears
Empty all alone

It was difficult
To pass the moments of fervor

Day would pass in trouble
Difficult was the night

Loneliness was like a thorn
At the time of remembrance

Chilled the heart
At the time of sorrow

He further wrote another song in a way of passing time in the prison.

Yes, the dream was shattered
I saw a falling picture
I picked the picture
The picture was torn
Yes, the dream was shattered…

Relatives became hostile
All the relations broken
I was robbed
By the near and dear ones

Yes, the dream was shattered…

I saw such a horrible dream
In this murkiness of night
I decided to show love
With the rival
Yes, the dream was shattered…

My real relations
Robbed by others
Dreams shattered
Of living like Romeo and Juliet

Yes, the dream was shattered…

Indra used to pass his time writing stories and songs in this way. After some days he was shifted to a bigger and brighter room where he could talk with other people. In the cell there were two Indian. One was Bengali and the other was Hindustani. As Indra could talk both the languages it was not difficult for Indra to pass time. One of the two Indians was Satpal. He suddenly got a letter. According to the letter Satpal was decided to be sent to his motherland. Satpal then requested to meet his daughters living in the city giving their address. Satpal then collected all of the things and left for his country immediately.

In that cell all the prisoners could come out for an hour in the morning and they could meet the people they want there. Indra passed time in easier when he was shifted to new cell. Ambitious Indra was bound to pass his life in prison for such a long period of time. He wrote his personal history in the prison in extreme frustration. He convinced himself that life has many ups and downs.

Life is like a dry leaf, it is blown by wind to an unknown destiny. It does not have any personal control. Indra believed that life is simply a race. We continue racing until breath last. It is a never-ending race throughout our life. Indra convinced himself by seeing the worse conditions of his friends like satisfying ourselves by seeing the face of monkey. Time flowed in still motion.

One day suddenly Figu Bhutia and Khandu came to meet Indra in his cell. Indra was surprised. Figu was a generous man. He would help many needy people. He was totally a social minded person. Figu told Indra in soothing way, “We have paid the charge of your judge. He assured us that he would release you very soon.”

The time for meeting finished and Indra was taken inside by the police. Indra was impatiently waiting for the court’s call. One day Indra was called by a police telling that there was a hearing in the court. When he was taken to the court he met his advocate there. He told his advocate that he went there for the trial. He prostrated and thanked the judge. After a short while there was a hearing of the case. Indra’s advocate was ready for the advocacy.
The court announced the verdict, “Indra has not been registered since last one year that is why he will be punished by the court. Secondly he withdrew the money from the joint account without the consent of his wife. For these reasons you will be put in the prison for two years. If you pay a sum of 2000 you don’t need to remain in the prison. You will be given a chance to pay off the money when you start job.”

Indra’s advocate said, “This verdict is acceptable to Indra. Please release Indra from the jail.”
The judge advocated according to the law and both signed in a government paper. It was written in the paper that Indra did not allow his wife to come to his wife and did not allow even to meet her daughter in the Kindergarten. Indra signed in the paper and a judge of the court told Indra to do better in the days to come. Indra’s advocate brought him to the railway station and gave him five euro to pay for the train fare. He was then seen off by the advocate but Indra had not eaten anything till that time. He did not have money to buy food and eat.
Indra saw Oikki in McDonalds and asked for money but she said that she did not have money. He borrowed some money from a foreigner and phoned Shisy a mongolain girl. Indra invited her to meet him at McDonalds. She came immediately and Indra told all the details of his experiences. The girl felt sympathetic and gave him 50 euro. She tried to console him by telling that he had come out of the prison so he need not worry. They took coffee together and departed from there.

Indra went to Figu Bhutia’s sister’s house and told the details of his experiences. She also gave him 50 euro after hearing about all his hardships. In this way Indra had to struggle in a whirlpool.
Indra then went to his friend’s house.

As Indra’s wife cancelled his registration his pass returned back after reaching there. Indra went to meet his daughter and met her. As soon as he reached there she saw him and came swiftly like a storm towards him Father and daughter met there after a long time.

She started complaining immediately, “Dad, my friend’s mother calls you a thief. She told me that you would not come to meet me. I told them that my father was not a thief. At last you came, didn’t you daddy? Please don’t go anywhere now onwards.”
Indra in a sympathetic tome said, “ I wont go anywhere leaving you my dear honey.”
“Good. Thank you my dear dad.”
Indra could easily guess that his daughter was also in a disturbed mind because of something unbearable.

Indra put maximum effort on in getting Visa and long stay pass but unfortunately his effort did not bear any fruit. All the offices instructed him to take the signature of his wife. He was afraid that she would not give her signature in such an easy way. Therefore, he stayed there taking a short stay pass of seven days. He struggled with living like that with short stay pass regularly for a long period of time. He also worked here and there in order to sustain himself.
At the same moment he also felt the responsibility of a father. He wanted to bring his sons there so that he could provide them with better education.

One day he talked with his old advocate friend. He requested the advocate to help him in bringing Indra’s sons there. The advocate told him that he would do the work with guarantee but he demanded a sum of 2000 euro each for person.
Indra instantly told that he was ready to give 2000 euro each per person. He further requested him to sponsor his two sons.
The advocate said that he would do everything but he asked only to provide him 4000 euro for two people. Indra took out 4000 euro and handed over to the advocate. Indra ultimately could bring both sons there with the help the advocate. He then, admitted both of his sons to a school but they could not do as he wished. According to the wish of his sons Indra found jobs for his sons. In this way he went on minimizing the burden of responsibility.

Indra was loved boundlessly by his daughter.
Due his daughter’s love he could not come back to Nepal for such a long time. He did not want to hamper the study of his beloved daughter.
After sometime suddenly there was a phone call at night at 10:12p.m. from his beloved daughter. He was really shocked to find a call at that time of the night. He found his daughter’s voice over the phone and asked her instantly, “Aren’t you asleep my dear daughter?”
She replied, “Dad, I am not feeling like sleeping.”
“Why daughter? What has happened? Are you dreaming?”
“No, dad. Did mom say anything with you? I am not with my mom now. I am with Philegan mom.”
Philegan is a place where parental care is given to children in absence of pleasing environment to children at their home. Indra was shocked and had piercing sensation in his heart.
He asked his daughter, “Why did you go there?”

“I wanted to come with you but did not allow me to come with you. They said that I did not have rights to live with you.”
At that moment Indra suddenly remembered that he registered his children’s entire name with the name of his wife as he did not have his own registration.
Indra asked her, “When did you go there, my darling?”
“It’s been only five days. I am feeling so sad and restless. Please kindly come to meet me immediately at least for once. You have not visited me for so long. So I requested Philegan mom and phoned you at this night.”
“My dear daughter, pardon me for that. I did not know this thing before you phoned me. I will go to meet my advocate early in the morning and will come to meet you. But tell me why you went there?”
“Dad, you it very well how cruel is my mom. She beat me mercilessly everyday. She locked in toilet for 8-9 hours. I had so terrible time there. I also need some liberty to move. Due to that, I could not become happy in my school. Teacher noticed my change and asked me instantly why I was so gloomy. They inquired whether father or mother scolded me. I told everything to my teacher. They asked me about the problems of my mom and I detailed my experiences with mom. Then my teacher suggested me to go to another mom’s house where there would be no problem and bullying. He assured me that there won’t be any intimidation. So I came here. But I am finding very difficult to pass time here in this foster home. Dad, you rather take me to Rupak brother’s house. I will go there and pursue my study.”
As Indra had good experience of staying in jail he felt jail like condition of his daughter there in foster house. He than consoled her. “Your number is saved in my mobile. Now it is late night, I will meet you tomorrow and arrange for your stay with me. I will make it possible with the help of my advocate. Daughter go to bed now, I will be meeting you soon.”
“Ok, thank you dad. I love you.”
“I love you too. Go to bed now. Wish you good night.”

Indra was frustrated to hear the words of his daughter. So in tension he took out bottles of wine kept for the guests and started drinking even if he did not have the habit of even smoking a pipe. In a drunken frenzy he called his wife. He scolded his wife in a very rude manner. “I gave you the freedom you wanted. Why are you taking revenge this time with that innocent child? Tell me where my daughter is. Why didn’t you tell me earlier if your paths were blocked by my daughter?
“I am extremely sorry. I did not inform you since I was trying to bring her back immediately. Things were lengthened jokingly so I could not bring her. Please pardon me. Lets talk in the morning as it is late night,” explained his wife.
Since Indra was furious like a tiger he continued scolding her in a rude way, “I did a great mistake. I am betrayed by the one who was given education in Sikkim with great effort,. I expected so much from her education to serve the society but now everything has shattered. I brought you in Europe expending more than Rs. 600, 00. I expected something new from the educated wife as they are gurus. I believed that educated wife could change my life in a positive way. I respected educated wife a god but today they have turned out to be the cruel, selfish and without the feeling of ‘we’, I spit on the head of such educated people. I respected you like a goddess but now you’ll never get any respect from me. I as a shepherd from a rustic upbringing will now urinate on the head of such goddess.”

After duration of many years Indra came to Nepal for a holiday of around three months. Indra’s mother, son and other relatives were eagerly waiting for him to arrive at home. When Indra reached his home his mother was extremely delighted to find his son coming to her home after a period of 20 years. The tears of happiness roll down their cheeks in unlimited amount because of the unexpected happiness that arrive suddenly in them. Their tears could nearly make a pond if it was collected. They cried for some time and the mother controlled herself. She started asking her son, “How are your children? How long will you stay here?” After due reply of Indra mother further said to her son, “ Even a dead man gets pension, you are still alive so you get consultation from your brother and try for your pension whether you can get it.”
Indra said, “Mother, I will surely do it what you say. I will rather make my citizenship certificate.”
Then, Indra went to Damauli for making his citizenship certificate. He found many people on the way ready with papers and pen. They told him that they would help him in all sorts of writing for official purpose. They were unauthorized clerks who get certain amount from the people who go there for any type of official work. They offered their help without any seek of help. He explained them that he was there for making a citizenship certificate.
The unauthorized clerk asked him, “Didn’t you make the citizenship certificate before? Why didn’t you make your citizenship certificate until this age?”
Indra replied, “I had my citizenship certificate but I was told to burn down all my documents so I burnt it when I went abroad. Therefore I have come to make my citizenship certificate once again.”
“Where do you live? Where did you prepare from?” asked the unauthorized clerk.
“I t was from Kathmandu,” replied Indra.
“Your works will be done quickly but you need to give names of your father, mother and your permanent address,” the unauthorized clerk said to Indra
After getting the names of Indra’s parents he went inside telling Indra that he would ask to the clerk inside in the office. The unauthorized clerk comes there after a short while back from the office. He said to Indra, “Your work will be done but you need to bring the recommendation certificate from the VDC, police report and other documents of the witnesses.”
Indra asked him immediately, “What should I do now?”
The unauthorized clerk, “You have to brings the recommendation from the VDC , police report and the witnesses from the local people.”
Indra asked, “Can’t we prepare it here?”
The unauthorized clerk said, “We can prepare it but the means of making your documents may illegal.”
Indra said, “Brother, I have understood the matter. You rather tell me how long does it take?”
The unauthorized clerk asked him his photos and told him to sign in a form. Then he went inside the office telling him that he would come very soon there. Indra was told to wait in a hotel until he came. After two hours the clerk came and met Indra in the same hotel.
He said to Indra, “Father, they did not trust you rather give them advance of Rs 5000(Rupees Five thousand).” Even though Indra knew everything he gave Rs. 5000 to him. Indra was compelled to give the money due to the time constraint.
The clerk took the money and went into the office. After a few minutes he came back and requested Indra to go inside the office following him. He suggested Indra not to give any money to other people without asking him in case they asked to give money. Indra, despite his illiteracy could understand every word with the implied meanings. The clerk told him to sing in different places of a form. Indra went on singing wherever he requested to sign. After the completion of the work the clerk said, “Even if your work was difficult I made it possible easily. It was great effort for me to prepare your documents. Therefore give me Rs. 3000 in addition to the advance.”
Indra said, “Little son, you please take the money for the other works also now. I have some other works to do to accomplish it faster. Indra felt, “If I don’t give the money they give us unnecessary tension telling to bring this or that. If I give it there is no provision of giving any money while making citizenship certificate.”

Indra after getting the citizenship certificate reached Kathmandu pension office with his pension book. Indra saluted all the officials of the office with the rules of the army telling “Jay Gorkha”.
Indra sought the suggestion of the officials. He said, “Brother, I have come to draw my pension. I have not drawn it for many years.”
“How long has it been?” asked the clerk.
“It has been 18 years, sir,” replied Indra.
Indra showed his passbook to the clerk. The clerk looking at his passport told that Indra can’t get the pension as his documents had already been burnt down. He threw the passbook on the floor. He further said that his records can’t be preserved for so long.
“Where were you for so long? What were you doing?” asked the clerk.
Indra instantly replied, “I was in Germany, sir.”
“Do you have the documents o staying there? Do you have your passport? What works were you doing there?” asked the clerk.
Indra took out his passport and saw to the clerk. The clerk looked at the passport and laughed. He said, “How is it possible to have two passports for a person with two different names?”
Indra said without any care for his pension, “You laugh when I tell the truth. You educated people are the one to give me two passports with two names. I am standing in front of you with the name of Indra. I was Indra yesterday and I am Indra now. Whatever I am doing now will be known after reading my personal story. You will understand me later when you know everything about me. I have come here to Nepal after twenty years to revive my blood relation with my nation. I have come here to do something for the society. As an uneducated man how can I keep two names in my own documents? How can I make two passports?”
The clerk said, “It is alright, you please bring all the documents for the prove. You must bring a recommendation from the VDC, from the District Administrative Office and police report from the police station.”
Indra prepared all the documents asked running in hectic manner. Even though he gave all the documents proving that both Indra Gurung and Nepe Gurung were same person’s name they told him to bring a letter from the German Embassy to prove it. Indra was upset for the matter. Indra after contemplating for some time phoned to his advocate in Germany. Then, he got all the documents of working in Germany from the advocate. He took all the documents of working there within some days. He submitted all the documents and waited for the response taking tea.
After some time Indra got a telephone call. He picked up the phone.
“Hello”, Indra responded
It was the phone call from daughter-in-law. She said, “ Mama(a word of respect to father -in -law), today we will take food in another step-mother’s house. She has invited us for the food. While you come back we’ll go there together.”
Indra kept his phone giving a positive response.
Indra also had started an institution called Nepal Helfe (Nepal Help Society). There was a discussion in the office of Nepal Helfe about the matter. Tehre was one more members added from female’s side. As the office was to be inaugurated in the house of that newly added member she was honored by putting a shawl. She was new member of the Nepal help Society. All the members discussed about the matter of Indra.
All the friends and members of the society were busy taking and discussing about the matter of Indra. They were discussing about Indra’s new marriage with drinking red level. At the same time Indra’s daughter-in-law came to take Indra with a taxi. Indra asked permission from all the members and friends and went to the party with his daughter-in-law. He assured all the friends to meet the next day. The people who invited Indra for the dinner were the relatives of his former wife Sidhi Maya. So, all the family members talked about Sidhi Maya. All the members went on listening to the history of Indra with great interest. After hearing much appreciation about Sidhi Maya from Indra they asked him, “Do you still love Sidhi Maya?”
“Yes of course I do love her. She was my first wife even if she had been with me for two months. Moreover, she was with great kindness and all-loving nature in comparison to other wives,” Indra replied.
All the family members asked Indra, “Do you want to talk with her?”
Indra was lost in himself for some time. He said, “It might be difficult to recognize after 35/36 years. She might be totally different now.”
Then, one of the nephew made a telephone contact with her. The phone rang and there was a ringing tone for sometime. The phoned was picked up.
“Hello, hello, hello” it was response from there.
But Indra could not even say “hello” in response to the call. He with great difficulty asked whether she was Sidhi Maya. “Yes, of course I am Sidhi Maya,” it was the response of his former wife.
Indra asked, “Could you recognize me?”
Sidhi Maya, replied, “I did not recognize your voice.”
“ I am Indra speaking.”
“Which Indra?”
“I am the son of Lal Singh Gurung of Chandani.”
Then she recognized him fully. She was really astonished to find Indra after 35/36 years. Both of them started talking about each other. They talked about their history and their past days when they were together. They talked with each other with different sharing of their life. They finally decided to meet each other after 2-3 days.

They met after 3 days and revived their old stories in the meet. They met in excitement like it was 36 years ago. They did not have any hesitation. Indra thought of conservative society of that time. He thought he might be condemned by the society for talking with the former wife in such a mood. Indra was afraid of the society for meeting the ex-wife but still he was moved by the history and remained all-loving like before. But he after hearing all the stories of Sidhi Maya Indra requested her to remain in his regular contact. He gave his phone number to her.

Indra always had a short time to meet Sidhi Maya. Indra after sometime went back to join his service. The meeting and detachment of Indra and Sidhi Maya revived like before in the past.
Indra’s flight lands in Munchen, Germany. Indra’s story also reaches there and stops ultimately.

I called you many times you paid no attention
Recently you’re different, what made you change?

I called you many times………………

I had deep love in core of hearts
I vowed to live and die together
Forgotten all the promises, all became false
Recently you’re different, what made you change?

I made a great mistake, with my insanity
I am left lonely, by so called dearest one
I am punished in the unknown mistakes
Recently you’re different, what made you change?

I called you many times you paid no attention
Recently you’re different, what made you change?

You trapped your love in selfishness
How could I console my frustrated heart?
Spoilt the dreams of living like Romeo and Juliet

Recently you’re different, what made you change?
